Many teachers and competitors practice in these even if they compete in higher heels.
Flare Heel (2"–2.5")


Best for: American Smooth, Standard ballroom styles

- Wider base at the bottom for stability
- Elegant look with good balance
- Easier for beginners than a slim heel
Common height:
- 2 in (5 cm)
- 2.5 in (6.5 cm)
This is one of the most popular competition heels.
Slim Heel (2.5"–3")


Best for: Latin, Rhythm competition
Why dancers choose it:
- More pointed line through the leg
- Better articulation of the foot
- Preferred by advanced dancers
Common height:
- 2.5 in (6.5 cm)
- 3 in (7.5 cm)
These require strong ankle control and balance.
Cuban Heel (Men’s Ballroom Shoes)


Best for: men’s Latin and Rhythm styles
Why dancers choose it:
- Slight lift helps posture
- Supports Latin hip action
- Stable square base
Common height:
- 1 in (2.5 cm)
- 1.5 in (4 cm)
Standard/Smooth men’s shoes usually have lower heels 1".
